Nosy neighbor submits anonymous reports about dude working on his car: 'The car was towed the same day and she flipped out'

Why do so many neighbors spend their time policing the other people in their neighborhood? It often seems like an age thing. The guy in this story, u/puppy_socks, is a 25-year-old man who has things to do, such as changing his car's oil. Meanwhile, his older neighbor who's in her 70s is keeping a close eye on him. Maybe she doesn't work and has nothing better to do with her time than report her neighbors for every little offense. If you have no job and nothing else to do with your life besides sitting in your apartment people-watching, maybe you become overly sensitive to the things your neighbors are doing. Making a mountain out of a molehill seems to be a pastime for this woman.
